How to Follow the Results on Election Day Don't read too much into the early returns

Several people cast their ballots on electronic voting machines on the first day of early voting at the Provo Recreation Center, on October 25, 2016 in Provo, Utah.

When it comes to hour-by-hour and, in some cases, minute-by-minute Election Day horse-race results, many political scientists say you’re better off avoiding it all. Close Twitter. Minimize your browser. Throw your phone in a lake.

That’s partly because while day-of projections, which are based on voter-turnout numbers and historical voting patterns, are good at providing a glimpse into the right now, they often don’t reflect bigger-picture trends. For example, younger voters, who tend to procrastinate on getting to the polls, and blue collar voters, who are less likely to have the kind of job that you can leave for an hour in the middle of the day, won’t always show up in voter-turnout tallies until after 5:30 p.m.

Day-of polls also aren’t good at detecting aberrations in voting patterns. If significant numbers of people who have never voted beforeshow up to the polls, as Donald Trump has promised, or certain demographic groups, like Latinos, end up turning out in record-high numbers, turnout-based models won’t show that.

Another reason to avoid day-of results, some political scientists argue, is that they may have the effect of depressing voter turnout in the evening hours. “It’s not just the presidential race you have to think about,” Elaine Kamarck, a senior fellow in governance studies at the Brookings Institution, told TIME. “It’s the down-ballot races in all the Western states.”

If Democrats in California can see that, say, Hillary Clinton is ahead in early results by a significant margin, Kamarck said, voters in that state may decide to avoid the hassle of going to the polls after work, which could help Republicans in both gubernatorial and statewide races, as well as local contests. Largely in deference to such fears, the biggest news outlets — ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Fox, as well as radio stations, newspapers, wire services and websites — redoubled their pledge before Congress to avoid calling a contest until the polls close in that state.

New, public-facing websites like VoteCastr.us promise to disrupt that tradition, which they see as unnecessarily precious in a 24-hour news cycle.

Starting Election Day morning, VoteCastr, in partnership with Slate, will publish up-to-date poll results every three hours throughout the day. Sasha Issenberg, a journalist and partner with VoteCastr, described the traditional news outlets’ “self-imposed gag order” as a disservice to the public interest and argued that that there’s “scant evidence” that calling elections before polls close has affected turnout.

VoteCastr Welcome to an Unprecedented Election Day Experiment.Want to see who’s winning the presidential race? Follow real-time turnout projections from Slate and VoteCastr.

VoteCastr, which is backed by a bipartisan team of election veterans, including Blaise Hazelwood, former political director of the Republican National Committee, and Ken Strasma, who headed up micro-targeting for Barack Obama in 2008, will collect data from thousands of precincts across 17 battleground states, borrowing a strategy long used by candidates, parties and super PACs.

In an interview with , Strasma was cautiously optimistic about the accuracy of the effort. “Any poll depends on the pollsters’ assumptions of the makeup of the electorate,” he said. “So with VoteCastr, they’re looking at past polling and surveys and then, on Election Day, saying, ‘O.K., based on who we’re actually seeing turn out, we can reasonably expect these people in this precinct to vote in this way.” In 2012, the Obama campaign used virtually the same method to predict that in Hamilton County, Ohio, their candidate would win 56.4% of the early vote. In an article for Slate, Issenberg pointed out that their guess ended up being just two-tenths of a percent away from the final count.

Tim Saler, vice president of the research firm Grassroots Targeting and former deputy campaign manager to Florida Governor Rick Scott, was also encouraging, but reiterated that the real magic was in the modeling. In Colorado in 2012, the Mitt Romney campaign cited public polling showing their candidate doing well among independents, Saler said. But those polls missed the fact that people who were identifying as independent, because that’s the way they thought of themselves, were actually registered Republicans. So on Election Day, Romney did much worse in Colorado than his campaign’s projections showed, Saler told TIME. “You have to avoid falling into the trap of misrepresenting the baseline,” he said.

The take-home message, said Roger Tourangeau, president of the Association for Public Opinion Research, is that while many of these models have become increasingly sophisticated over the past decade, with vastly more public polling and deep historical records on voter behavior, none of it is perfect. The only surefire way to know who won an election is to wait for AP vote tallies, which will come in after polls close or early the next morning, or to count every last vote, including absentee, overseas and preliminary ballots — an impressive logistical endeavor that will be complete by the end of the week.

If you want to avoid that roller-coaster feeling Election Day, wait until the polls close to get excited.

Trump details plans to track illegal immigrants

Donald Trump said those who overstay their visas will be "quickly removed" o concentration camps? US Jails are full and no place for rapists and murders to influence our criminals with their own evil ways.

The US Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, has said he will develop a tracking system to help authorities control immigration.

Speaking on the campaign trail in Iowa, he outlined what he called an "entry-exit" programme, which would track those who overstay their visas.

He also reiterated his support for building a wall along the southern border with Mexico.

And he said he would stop illegal immigrants getting welfare benefits.

"I am going to build a great border wall, institute nationwide e-verify, stop illegal immigrants from accessing welfare and entitlements, and develop an exit-entry tracking system to ensure those who overstay their visas are quickly removed," Mr Trump said.

"If we don't enforce visa expiration dates, then we have an open border - it's as simple as that," he added.
  • How could you deport 11m people?
  • How might Trump's screening plan work?
  • Trump’s Super Shock troops( SS) : Who are the ‘alt-right’?
Immigration was a central issue in Mr Trump's primary campaign.

Earlier this week, he signalled he would soften his immigration plans.

Instead of deporting all 11 million people living illegally in the US as he had suggested before, he said only criminals would go immediately. The rest would be put into concentration camps and deported as soon as possible

He was immediately criticised by the right of the Republican party, with Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin warning him of "massive disappointment" if he backed down on his plan to deport undocumented immigrants.

The Little Boy with His Hands Up
by Yala Korwin

Your open palms raised in the air
like two white doves
frame your meager face,
your face contorted with fear,
grown old with knowledge beyond your years.
Not yet ten. Eight? Seven?
Not yet compelled to mark
with a blue star on white badge
your Jewishness.

No need to brand the very young.
They will meekly follow their mothers.

You are standing apart
Against the flock of women and their brood
With blank, resigned stares.
All the torments of this harassed crowd
Are written on your face.
In your dark eyes—a vision of horror.
You have seen Death already
On the ghetto streets, haven't you?
Do you recognize it in the emblems
Of the SS-man facing you with his camera?

Like a lost lamb you are standing
Apart and forlorn beholding your own fate.

Where is your mother, little boy?
Is she the woman glancing over her shoulder
At the gunmen at the bunker's entrance?
Is it she who lovingly, though in haste,
Buttoned your coat, straightened your cap,
Pulled up your socks?
Is it her dreams of you, her dreams
Of a future Einstein, a Spinoza,
Another Heine or Halévy
They will murder soon?
Or are you orphaned already?
But even if you still have a mother,
She won't be allowed to comfort you
In her arms.

Her tired arms loaded with useless bundles
Must remain up in submission.

Alone you will march
Among other lonely wretches
Toward your martyrdom.

Your image will remain with us
And grow and grow
To immense proportions,
To haunt the callous world,
To accuse it, with ever stronger voice,
In the name of the million youngsters
Who lie, pitiful rag-dolls,
Their eyes forever closed.

New Hillary Clinton Emails ....all your questions answered by Sam Frizell ( republished with permission of the author and Time Magazine in which the article appeared)

Jewel Samad—AFP/Getty ImagesU.S. Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton speaks at a Community in Unity rally in Wilton Manors, Florida, on Oct. 30, 2016.

Friday’s announcement that the FBI is examining additional emails relevant to the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s email server has shaken up the presidential race. With just days before the election, it has resurrected Clinton’s email controversy and given Donald Trump’s advisers new hope.

Here are the answers to your questions about what happened.

What did FBI Director James Comey announce Friday?

In a letter to Congress on Friday, FBI Director James Comey said that the FBI had found additional emails that may be pertinent to the investigation into Clinton’s private email server.

Though he gave scant details, Comey said FBI agents are reviewing the emails to see whether they contained classified information.

Four months ago, the FBI completed an investigation into whether Clinton and her aides mishandled classified information when she was Secretary of State. Comey said in a public announcement in July that “no reasonable prosecutor” would indict Clinton for sending classified material on her private email server. Most believed then that the email controversy was over.

Now with just days before the Nov. 8 election, Comey’s letter to Congress saying that the FBI is examining new emails connected to the investigation has set of a maelstrom of accusations and ceaseless news coverage that could impact the outcome.

Is this what the FBI normally does?

No. The FBI rarely comments on ongoing investigations. And it is unprecedented for the FBI to comment on an investigation into a major-party candidate for president 11 days before an election.

Comey’s announcement has been criticized by numerous current and former Justice Department officials who said the FBI director broke with department protocol. Former attorney general under President Obama, Eric Holder, said Comey “commited a serious error” and Republican attorney general under George W. Bush Alberto Gonzales said Comey’s actions were an “error in judgement.”

So why did Comey do it?

Comey is sensitive about maintaining the political independence of the FBI and is aware that any move he makes is being closely scrutinized. That has led him to openly discuss FBI investigations in an unusual way.

In July, Comey held a press conference to explain why he recommended not pressing charges against Clinton. Then Comey agreed to testify before Congress about his decision to head off accusations that Comey’s decision was politically motivated. He also released the transcripts of FBI interviews with Hillary Clinton and Huma Abedin.

Now, Comey has calculated that a public letter to Congress is a better option than waiting until after Nov. 8. Putting off an announcement could make it appear that Comey was withholding damaging information to protect Clinton. Or worse, someone within the FBI could leak the news of the new emails just a few days before Nov. 8. Whatever Comey did, he risked being accused of unfairly impacting the election.

Comey has been under even greater pressure to prove his independence after President Obama publicly commented on the email server controversy last October and Attorney General Loretta Lynch was briefly visited on her plane by former President Bill Clinton. Republicans seized on both events to question whether the FBI could be neutral.

Where did these new emails come from?

According to reports, the emails were found as part of the investigation into former congressman Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of close Clinton aide Huma Abedin. Weiner has been under FBI investigation since news broke that he had exchanged lewd photos with a minor. The new emails were discovered on a laptop that was seized as part of the investigation.

What are in the new emails anyway?

We don’t know yet. The FBI obtained a warrant over the weekend to search through the new Clinton emails. Of the 650,000 emails on the computer, reports suggest a very, very small fraction could be relevant to Clinton’s email server. Many could be duplicates of emails that have already been pored over by government agencies and journalists. They may not be work-related emails, and it is unclear whether Clinton sent any of the emails, or whether they are even from her private server.

The likely worst-case scenario for the Clinton campaign is that some of the emails found on the laptop were not among the emails she handed over to the State Department, and they contain classified information.

What has the reaction been from Trump, Clinton and other partisans?

Trump has exulted over the news, mentioning it at nearly every campaign stop. “The investigation is the biggest political scandal since Watergate,” Trump said after the news broke. “The FBI never would have reopened this case at this time unless it were a most egregious criminal offense.”

Clinton, meanwhile, has said Comey should release quickly whatever information he has. Other Democrats have blasted the FBI director, accusing him of a partisan meddling in the election. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid went farthest, saying in a letter to Comey that the FBI director may have violated the Hatch Act, which bars political activity by federal employees. “Through your partisan actions, you have broken the law,” Reid said.

What happens next?

The FBI is working through the emails to determine whether they contain classified information. Each agency that originated information that the FBI flags will have to conduct its own review, a lengthy process that will likely extend beyond Election Day.

For now, expect both sides to take partisan shots. Clinton’s aides have said their candidate will turn her attention toward regular campaigning, and her allies and Democrats are focusing their fire on Comey. Trump will continue to openly speculate about the emails.

The bad news is that it likely won’t be over on Nov. 8.

The Fall of Dilbert From working-class hero to egomaniacal Trump supporter

On Monday Dilblert  became one of the few well known Millennials to endorse Donald Trump.Since then the King Of Office Gossip, the Cynic and Political  Super star has received 87.987 comments with 378,987 expletives. 28,874 that never existed previously. The FBI and CIA are investigating  6,346 death threats , 8,724 from abroad .to comment, Diblert who has  more followers than Donald Trump , Hillary Clinton, Obama, God and Mohammed combined said " Hey, for this type of publicity I will seriously consider giving up my windowless corner office ,my subscriptions to the NY Times and Washington Post, nt Starbuck Cup of ambition every morning,  marry my secretary Tiffany Trump and retire to my six  room apartment in Trump Tower received from my future brother in laws Donald and Eric  , for taking their close to home  squeaze of their hands before the mainstream press start asking about their double dip activities and cocaine breakfasts at Tiffany's  "

Dilbert is an American comic strip written and illustrated by Scott Adams, first published on April 1, 1980. The strip is known for its satirical office humor about a white-collar, micromanaged office featuring engineer Dilbert as the title character. The strip has spawned several books, an animated television series, a video game, and hundreds of Dilbert-themed merchandise items. Dilbert Futureand The Joy of Work are among the most read books in the series. Adams received the National Cartoonists Society Reuben Award in 1997 and the Newspaper Comic Strip Award in the same year for his work on the strip. Dilbert appears online and in 2,000 newspapers worldwide in 65 countries and 25 languages.
The comic strip originally revolved around Dilbert and his "pet" dog Dogbert in their home. Many plots revolved around Dilbert's engineer nature or his bizarre inventions. Also prominent were plots based on Dogbert's megalomaniacal ambitions. Later, the location of most of the action moved to Dilbert's workplace and the strip started to satirize technology, workplace, and company issues. The comic strip's popular success is attributable to its workplace setting and themes, which are familiar to a large and appreciative audience;Adams has said that switching the setting from Dilbert's home to his office was "when the strip really started to take off". The workplace location is Silicon Valley.
Dilbert portrays corporate culture as a Kafkaesque world of bureaucracy for its own sake and office politics that stand in the way of productivity, where employees' skills and efforts are not rewarded, and busy work is praised. Much of the humor emerges as the audience sees the characters making obviously ridiculous decisions that are natural reactions to mismanagement.
Themes explored include:
  • Engineers' personal traits
    • Idiosyncrasy of style
    • Hopelessness in dating (and general lack of social skills)
    • Attraction to tools and technological products
  • Business ethics (or lack thereof)
  • Esotericism
  • Incompetent and sadistic management
    • Scheduling and budgeting without reference to reality
    • Failure to reward success or penalize laziness
    • Penalizing employees for failures caused by bad management
    • Micromanagement
    • Failure to improve others' morale, lowering it instead
    • Failure to communicate objectives
    • Handling of projects doomed to failure or cancellation
    • Sadistic HR policies with evil rationale
    • Susceptibility to business trends and popular buzzwords
  • Corporate bureaucracy
  • ISO audits
  • Budgeting, accounting, payroll and financial advisors
  • Stupidity of the general public
    • Susceptibility to advertising
    • Susceptibility to peer pressure
    • Susceptibility to flattery
    • Gullibility in the face of obvious scams
  • Fourth World countries and outsourcing (Elbonia)
    • Dilapidation
    • Bizarre cultural habits
    • Lack of understanding of capitalism

Presidential Temperament : Clinton Versus Trump

Ever since the first debate between Hillary and Trump, many have remarked on the “ugliness” of this election season. It sounds so nice and bipartisan to call them both clowns and loftily pronounce yourself to be above the fray, but this is flagrant false equivalence. While I haven’t always agreed with Hillary on everything, relative to Trump she’s been a model candidate.

It’s worth noting that throughout history, people have said women can’t be president because they are too emotional, but Hillary has admirably demonstrated how a female candidate can have much greater self-control than her male opponent.

Poll: Israelis strongly favor Clinton over Trump by 42% to24%

Story highlights

  • The findings run counter to a recent trend
  • Israelis believe Clinton would put more pressure on them for peace talks
Jerusalem (CNN)Almost twice as many Israelis prefer Hillary Clinton to Donald Trump, bucking the recent trend of Republican presidential candidates winning more support than Democrats, according to a new poll.
When asked which candidate they preferred, 42% of Israelis said Clinton, compared with 24% who cited Trump, a survey from the Israel Democracy Institute found. Another 13% said the candidates are the same from Israel's perspective.
The poll results represent a change from recent cycles in which Israelis have favored GOP candidates.
In fact, Israelis haven't preferred a Democrat in the White House since 2000, said Shmuel Rosner, author of "The Jewish Vote: Obama vs. Romney: A Voter's Guide."
"Clinton is a well-known commodity in Israel. Bill Clinton, up until today, according to several polls, is considered by Israelis to be the most friendly US president ever towards Israel," Rosner said.
"So they (pollsters) say the name Clinton and it rings familiar," he added. "They assume that if Bill Clinton was such a friendly president to Israel, then his wife must be friendly as well."
The survey included Arab-Israelis and found the percentage who favor Trump is much lower than among Jewish Israelis. Only 11% of the Arabs surveyed believe he would be preferable, compared with 27% of Jews.
RELATED: Trump finds corner of support in Israel
Trump has had problems attracting the Jewish vote in the US after claims of anti-Semitic themes in various tweets and the backing he's received from the former head of the KKK, David Duke, and the American Nazi Party. A report this week by the Anti-Defamation League also found nearly 20,000 anti-Semitic tweets have been directed at more than 800 journalists since the campaign began, often because those journalists voiced critical opinions about Trump.

Rosner said "predictability" is a key factor for why Israelis prefer Clinton.
"Predictability is an essential quality of a US presidential candidate," he said. "(Israelis) would like to know that the president is going to follow pretty much mainstream, friendly policy toward Israel. In Trump, they see an unpredictable future president -- someone who they cannot be sure will be friendly towards Israel as previous presidents. In the choice between reliability and opportunity, Israelis will go for reliability."
Israelis prefer Clinton even though they believe she will put more pressure on the Israeli government, according to the Democracy Institute poll.
When asked which candidate would more heavily pressure the Israeli government to renew peace talks with the Palestinians, 57% said Clinton, while only 7% believed Trump would lean more on the Israeli government.
"The evaluation that she will pressure Israel can be interpreted two ways: The one is positive from the left and center from those that want pressure to be exerted on Israel," said Tamar Hermann, senior fellow at the Israel Democracy Institute and academic director of the Gutmann Center for Public Opinion and Policy Research. "The second, from the right, is from those that are afraid of this pressure."
Rosner added, "There are quite a few Israelis who do not support the current policies of the government, and for them, some American pressure on the government does not seem a terrible idea. As for the voters of the (Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu coalition ... they prefer the known path of some pressure on Israel than the unknown path" of Trump.
Israel has 200,000 eligible American voters, according to the non-partisan organization IVoteIsrael, which registers American Israelis to vote.
The survey, conducted between October 5-9, included a total of 600 Israeli and Arab-Israeli respondents over the age of 18. The survey did not differentiate between Israelis, who cannot vote in the US election, and American-Israelis, who can vote. The margin of error is +/-4.1%.
